After waiting months (in vain) for The China Study to become available at my local library, I buckled and made the purchase of the above edition. Touted as “..the most comprehensive study of Nutrition ever conducted..”, this book has been mentioned in several other books I’ve read. So, I figured it wouldn’t hurt for me to investigate and examine the research for myself. The revised and expanded version is brand new as it was released December 27th, 2016 and is currently on the Best Seller’s list as expected. Though I am not a “Scientist” or Dietician (yet? :-D), I’ll be reading this book with my Fitness clients in mind. But honestly, I’m really just genuinely interested in the topic. To anyone who has yet to research the difference between the numerous types of scientific studies, I encourage you to do so. Having an understanding of how these studies differ can only assist you in your journey to process information purported to be the scientific authority (Example of why not all studies are created equal). Then, if you’d like to hold an intelligent discussion or add any insight to the topic, feel free to leave a comment. As always, suggestions for reading are welcome.
For anyone interested, here are some books I’ve read. Fair warning: there’s history & psychology books in the mix.
Resolution Run [Results]
Despite the damp, cold, and rainy day that is January 1st, 2017, my running partner and I managed to attend and complete the Resolution Run. First, I’d like to say that i’m extremely proud of my partner who, even after suffering from post NYE restlessness, came and endured the elements. In fact, this run wasn’t really about me. My goal was to be a positive influence and the necessary inspiration for someone else to be encouraged and motivated to start this year off the right way. That, we did. We spent our first 3 miles together, side by side through the valleys and peaks. She was a good sport and understanding of my need to compete and, therefore, I ran the entire 4th mile for good measure. But, again, I am extremely proud of my partner and a big Kudos to everyone who triumphed over the inclement weather. Here’s to many more!
Thanksgiving Day 5k in Atlanta (Results)
I ran my first official 5k this year in Atlanta! In fact, I’ve never run a competitive race in my adult life and wasn’t much of a runner before or in High School. So, I guess this is to make up for lost time. I wish I would’ve actually trained! I’m going partner hunting for the Resolution Run, January 2017 in ATL. If you’re coming, let’s connect! Here are my results:
We Let it Grow to Join the Fight Against Cancer!
This November, I participated in #NoShaveNovember to help with a great cause! The photographer responsible for the image above also led the mobilization efforts for our team’s organization.
Each day, 22,000 people die from cancer worldwide (WHO). There’s a good chance that someone you know and love will be affected by this disease. Nearly half of cancer diagnoses and deaths are preventable. No-Shave November’s mission is to not only raise funds for cancer research and treatment but to educate the population about preventative measures.
